Education is the basis for development of any community. Unless true education is provided, no society will be able to develop and stand on its own, not to speak of contributing to the overall welfare of the nation and the world. It is with this vision that Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission entered into the education sector, to fulfil a vital need of the backward people of Attappady.

Though there were many government and Private schools in the area, students were not offered good “man-making education” as Swamiji called it. The system was not inspiring the students to aspire for higher educational and social goals. Malleeswara Vidyanikethan School was established in 1992 by a government servant to provide children of the area with a good primary education.

Later, when he was not able to continue supporting the school with his meagre income, he handed over the school to Navothana Parishath, which is a trust based in Palakkad in 1996. As the school was growing in terms of number of students and the classes, it needed a local administration to develop it further. Hence Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission trust agreed to take over the administration of the school in 2011.
