Republic Day 2021 was celebrated in the Malleeswara Vidyanikethan School with participation from officials from EY GDS , Kochi. Sri Koshy Mathew, Partner, EY GDS, hoisted the national flag and delivered the Republic Day Message.

‘When the going gets tough the tough get going’
When Covid 19 broke out and the ensuing lockdown was announced, it also resulted in closure of schools. So when June came there was no sign of the schools being re-opened. All the classes went into online mode. In Attappady, children lacked the facilities to attend online classes in the tribal villages and remote locations. It was then the volunteers from #EYGDS stepped in to support the poorest and unconnected students in Attappady. Laptops were provided for students to attend online classes. 30 laptops were distributed to villages through Block Resource Centre of SSK under education department of the Government of Kerala. 60 laptops were strategically placed in villages where all the children could attend class offline using files downloaded from the website for online classes. It was done through village level volunteers of #SwamiVivekanandaMedicalMission in Attappady. 10 Tabs were distributed to differently-abled children for attending their online classes. 10 Digital Televisions donated by EYGDS were installed at Malleeswara Vidyanikethan school for providing multimedia lessons to children.
On the occasion of Republic Day on 26th January 2021, the library of the School was inaugurated by Sri Koshy Mathew, Leader, EYGDS. The inauguration was held in the presence of Sri Binoy Raj, Sri #VinodVS, and Sri Byju, officials from EYGDS . Ms. Padmakshi P.K. (Headmistress), P.Sivadasan (President of School Management Committee),E.T.Raveendran (Secretary) , S.Sajimon (Secretary of Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission trust) and Dr.Narayanan V( Chief Medical Officer of Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Hospital) were also present on the occasion. Employees of EYGDS had raised 520 books for the children’s library. The dignitaries participated in the Republic Day flag hoisting, flag salute and National Anthem. Sri Koshy Mathew and Sri Binoy Raj interacted with the students on their future plans and ambitions.
The officials of EYGDS visited the Sri Balachandran Memorial Janavaibhava Kendram and interacted with the women entrepreneurs engaged in garment making there. Ms.Diana Francis spoke about entrepreneurship development and the skills required for promoting the production unit.
Farmers at the Vellakulam village in Sholayur Panchayat had a detailed discussion with the officials from EYGDS about their concerns and challenges in farming. About 13000 saplings of fruit bearing plants which were planted in the past months in Vellakulam and Vechapathy villages with help of EYGDS are expected to provide regular income to the farmers there in a few years. The farmers could cultivate in their lands only in six months of the year, since the cropping was dependent solely on seasonal rains. A plan for setting up a micro-irrigation project was discussed with the officials, which would enable them to cultivate throughout the year. A plan for scaling up the medicinal plant’s cultivation project for sustainable agriculture for the tribal farmers was also discussed
