Improving Digital Literacy for Tribal Farmers through Digi Sakhis — Attappady
Digi Sakhi 2.0
Digi Sakhi is a project supported by EY–GSI, with the objective of enhancing the digital skills of tribal communities through basic digital literacy, information search and evaluation, online communication, and safe and effective use of digital services. The initiative that trains local tribal women as village-level digital trainers, enabling them to bring practical smartphone and digital skills to tribal communities across ten hamlets in Agali, Sholayur, and Pudur. The programme focuses on agri-tech, financial inclusion, government services, and online safety.
Digi Sakhi 2.0 builds on this initiative with a specific focus on strengthening digital literacy among Self-Help Group (SHG) members in the Agali Panchayats of Attappady, empowering communities to confidently access and use digital services. Digi sakhi is project supported by EY – GDS with the objective of ,to enhance the digital skills of tribal people, including basic computer literacy ,information search and evaluation,online communication etc.
Target group: Tribal farmers and Self-Help Group members across ten hamlets of Attappady, alongside local tribal women trained as Digi Sakhi leaders.
Digital Literacy Training: Conducted digital literacy training sessions for tribal farmers to improve their awareness and ability to use digital tools and services.
Digi Sakhi Programme Awareness Campaign: Conducted village-level awareness campaigns as part of the Digi Sakhi 2.0 programme to promote digital literacy and encourage community members to access digital services.
Current Progress
The programme has trained 1000+ tribal farmers and community members, with 100 SHGs completing the full training cycle. All 10 Digi Sakhis have been trained and deployed across the target communities. 10 digital awareness campaigns have been conducted, reaching 1,200+ community members.
Digital Empowerment & Community Impact
The programme provides practical digital literacy training covering smartphone use, internet access, agricultural information, digital payments and banking, government services, and online safety. It enables SHG members and farmers to use digital tools confidently and access essential services independently. By placing trained Digi Sakhis within their own communities, the programme creates a locally led and sustainable support system, making digital knowledge more accessible to tribal communities.
